我叫顾曰国。这是我的个人网站。您的访问是我的莫大荣耀！
作为个人网站，我们相聚在这个虚拟空间里就可以放飞我们的想象，在科学的天地里自由翱翔。
多模态研究是我的兴趣。不知是否也是您的兴趣? 假如不是，这没有关系，兴趣是可以培养的。我原来也不感兴趣，现在成了我的终身追求。
你也许要问：什么是多模态研究？哈哈哈，纸糊的，捅破了很简单。所谓“模态”，英文是modality。用通俗的话说，就是“感官”。我们不是常说人有五官嘛，视、听、嗅、味、触。现代医学研究发现，人实际上有20个感官之多。它们在大脑里有自己的位置，而且有些感官比较重要，比如视觉，大脑里有多处负责其功能。所以有些医学专家认为用modality这个词来代替sense organ更严谨一些。
我们现在搞明白了模态。您不禁要问：难道我们要研究大脑里的模态吗？这我可研究不了。这是医学专家们的事。我要研究的是：我们是怎样利用我们的感官—哈哈哈，应该说模态了— 去做人际间的互动的。比如您现在正在用您的视觉和触觉浏览我的网站，跟我做非实时互动。这正是我要研究的。
还有一项更有意义的课题，那就是我想知道人是如何通过感官模态去获得知识和技能的。太重要了。人不学习能行吗？！
长话短说吧，假如您想知道人—您、我、他、她—是如何通过各种感官模态互动的，人是如何通过各种感官模态去学习的，这个网站就是您的家。让我们一起来营造这个虚拟空巢吧！

Yes, home! It’s my personal website. But, as you’ll see, it’s also yours, truly yours! We shall work together to make it OURS.
Ah who am I? I’m Gu Yueguo, a fanatic in multimodality and multimediality. Humans are multimodal animals enjoying multimedia presentations. “A picture is worth a thousand words”, so we are told by the time-tested wisdom.
Multimodal interaction is a universal form of interaction. It is universal not only within species, but also across species. Babies even in mothers’ wombs are found interacting with Moms. Our dogs behave with their tails between the legs when we human masters are angry! How do they know? Ah some of their sense organs are much sharper than ours. We have a lot to learn from them.
As early as 1993, I became interested in sounds, images, and video streams. I was enchanted by them. I don’t know, they just appear more interesting to me than words in black and white. Later on I got support from my friend Shen Jiaxuan, who helped me secure some funding from the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences. And I also went around with a begging bowl in the business sectors. Here is where I am.
I want to share with you my experiences, the things I learned, as well as the things that have kept worrying me. Perhaps you could help me. I’m sure you CAN and your WILL.
